Report on Federal Transportation Funding

The National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission published its recommendations for the next federal transportation reauthorization. Congress tasked this panel of experts with assessing the condition of the nation's transportation system, identifying future transportation needs, and evaluating viable alternatives to the gas tax for funding the nation's transportation system.  Key recommendations include raising the federal gas tax 25-40 cents per gallon over the next five years, allowing public-private partnerships and tolling, and NEPA reform.  See the report here.
